Final Step - Add the label
There’s something truly magical about crafting your own skincare remedies, especially when they come straight from nature’s apothecary. I have been working on this recipe for months and I’m finally really pleased with it. This Golden Bloom Balm is a rich, nourishing salve infused with the healing properties of calendula, rosehip seed, tamanu, and lavender—I chose each for their skin-loving benefits. I went through many combinations, but I liked this one the best. I decided to share a reduced recipe if anyone wanted to make their own. Whether you're soothing dry hands, calming irritation, or simply giving your skin a little extra love, this balm is the perfect combination of oils.
Why Golden Bloom Balm?
The name went through its own evolution, but why use Calendula? Calendula has long been cherished for its ability to soothe, restore, and protect the skin. It has a beautiful yellow flower that dries nicely that I also use on the tops of some of my soaps. It is easy to grow in the garden and produces many blooms.
Combined with the oils of rosehip seed and tamanu, this balm deeply hydrates while helping to reduce scars, inflammation, and irritation. A touch of lavender essential oil adds a calming aroma, making it perfect for bedtime application or a moment of self-care during a busy day.
Golden Bloom Balm Recipe
Ingredients - beeswax not shown.
Ingredients:
4 oz Calendula-Infused Oil – The heart of this balm, offering soothing and anti-inflammatory benefits. I made my own infused oil, but I linked up a source to purchase.
1.3 oz Beeswax – Creates a protective barrier, sealing in moisture while keeping skin soft.
1 oz Shea Butter – A deeply hydrating butter rich in vitamins A and E.
½ oz Rosehip Seed Oil – A rejuvenating oil known for its ability to reduce scars and fine lines.
1/2 oz Tamanu Oil – A powerhouse oil for healing and regeneration.
½ oz Vitamin E Oil – Acts as a natural preservative while nourishing the skin.
6 drops Calendula Extract – Boosts the anti-inflammatory power of calendula.
6 drops Lavender Essential Oil – Adds a calming, skin-soothing scent.
You will also need a double boiler to gently melt beeswax and Shea Butter. I bought one for a few dollars at a thrift shop.
How to Make Golden Bloom Balm
Step 1: Melt the Beeswax and Shea Butter
In a double boiler (or a heat-safe bowl over simmering water), melt the beeswax and shea butter together. Stir occasionally until fully melted and combined.
Step 2: Add the Oils
Remove from heat and stir in the calendula-infused oil, tamanu oil, rosehip seed oil, and vitamin E oil. Mix well to ensure all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
Step 3: Enhance with Extracts & Essential Oils
Once the mixture has slightly cooled (but is still liquid), add the calendula extract and lavender essential oil. Stir gently to distribute the essential oils throughout.
The tamanu oil makes it look brown but it will set up lighter.
Step 4: Pour into Tins
Carefully pour the mixture into clean, dry 2-oz tins or glass jars. Let the balm set at room temperature until fully solidified.
Firming up.
Step 5: Enjoy & Store
Once solid, cap the tins and store them in a cool, dry place. Golden Bloom Balm will last for 6-12 months, depending on storage conditions.
My larger recipe makes 12 - 2 oz. tins.
Ingredient Benefits
A little bit more information about each ingredient.
Calendula-Infused Oil
This golden-hued oil is infused with dried calendula petals, a traditional herb used for soothing skin irritations, minor wounds, and inflammation. It’s gentle enough for sensitive skin and provides a boost of antioxidants. It is surprisingly easy to make.
Beeswax
Beeswax acts as a natural moisture barrier, keeping hydration locked into the skin while protecting against environmental elements. It also gives the balm its smooth, silky texture.
Shea Butter
A luxurious butter packed with vitamins A and E, shea butter deeply nourishes, soothes, and softens the skin. It’s excellent for dry, cracked skin and provides a light natural SPF.
Rosehip Seed Oil
Often called “liquid gold,” rosehip seed oil is renowned for its ability to fade scars, reduce fine lines, and even skin tone. High in vitamin C and fatty acids, it promotes skin regeneration and elasticity.
Tamanu Oil-(From a Nut Tree)
Tamanu oil is a natural healer, known for reducing inflammation, treating scars, and improving overall skin texture. It absorbs beautifully into the skin, making it a powerhouse for damaged or acne-prone skin. It is sourced from a nut tree so I would avoid if you have any nut allergies.
Vitamin E Oil
A natural antioxidant, vitamin E protects against free radicals, slows signs of aging, and extends the shelf life of the balm. It also aids in skin repair and hydration.
Calendula Extract
A concentrated boost of calendula’s powerful anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties, helping to speed up skin healing.
Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender is known for its calming aroma and skin-soothing properties. It reduces redness, irritation, and even mild acne, making this balm a treat for both the skin and the senses.
How to Use Golden Bloom Balm
Test in a small area to make sure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. Apply to dry hands, elbows, and feet for deep hydration.
Massage onto scars, scrapes, or irritated skin for a soothing effect.
Dab onto cheeks and under-eyes for a natural glow.
Use as a nighttime facial balm for skin repair while you sleep.
Whether you’re tending to your garden, embracing the great outdoors, or simply pampering your skin after a long day, Golden Bloom Balm is a must-have in any natural skincare routine. I have used this balm on my face, my cuticles (they are always a mess since I make so much soap), dry skin patches and my lips (I don’t recommend that use, it takes pretty bad).
Would you try making this at home? Let me know in the comments if you do, and happy crafting! 🌿✨
