Finding Beauty in Repurposed Items
The Joys of Repurposing
When we started the log home project, it was important to us to incorporate sustainable and upcycled materials. I began scouring antique stores to find items that could be repurposed into unique pieces for our home. One item I was particularly eager to find was a black iron bed for our bedroom. Despite my efforts, I couldn't find one in good shape.
The magic of spray paint!
The solution was right under my nose! I had the iron bed I used as a child. After hours of sanding and painting it black, it was exactly what I was looking for all along! This personal touch added a sense of history and sustainability to our home.
It fits perfectly between the windows.
Another fantastic find was an antique chicken egg incubator, which I transformed into a living room coffee table. With a doily from a thrift store, it looked like it was made to be a coffee table. I also found another incubator at our local antique store, Wildcat Creek Emporium, which now serves as an end table. The incubator came with a bonus shelf sitting on top of it. After cleaning the shelf with Murphy's Oil Soap, I discovered it was walnut! After oiling it, the shelf now serves as a functional and beautiful piece above my washer and dryer.

These projects have encouraged me to see the potential in repurposing items, adding unique conversation pieces to our home. I hope this inspires you to look for items you can repurpose for your space. Stay tuned for my next post, where I'll share the story of my repurposed bathroom vanity.
