DIY Barnwood and Linen Window Coverings for a Cozy Home
Cozy Living Room Curtains.
Choosing Rustic Window coverings
Living room windows that provide an abundance of light during the day.
Choosing window coverings for my living room windows was something I really dragged my feet on. I wanted something that would diffuse the light but not draw attention away from the beautiful log wall and upper windows. I wanted something simple, easy to clean, and fresh-looking. I also didn't want to drill holes and put up rods. I just wanted a simple look.
Simple and Functional!
Where do you go when you can't find what you want? Pinterest and Etsy are my go-to sites. I found a look with gauzy linen curtains and hooks mounted on an old piece of barnwood. It met my light filtering, easy to clean, and simple criteria. I sent my husband to find a few pieces of barnwood, ordered hooks from Amazon, and linen curtains from Wayfair.
My husband graciously cut the boards to the width of the windows and attached the black hooks. He mounted the hooked boards above the windows, and then I hung up the curtains. I tied them back with some twine, and in a short time, I had exactly what I was looking for! I used the same linen curtains in the dining room.
Installed barnwood with hooks.
For my kitchen and loft windows, I lucked into some valances while thrifting. Each of the valances was a quarter! Once washed and pressed, they looked soft and fit in perfectly with my aesthetic. They are one of my favorite finds so far. I chose to use spring rods to hang them because I just couldn't bring myself to drill holes in the window trim and use traditional rods. I like the way they tuck into the window and let in a comfortable amount of light.
Thrifted valance.
